Choosing Wedding Music

Terminology

Prelude: Background music for when guests are entering the wedding space, usually 20-30 minutes. This sets the mood for the wedding.

Andrea recommends a mix of light classical, love songs, and pop tunes.

Processional: The songs for the entrances of the family (grandparents and parents), bridal party (bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer), and bride as they walk down the aisle.

Andrea recommends slower paced and loving songs. Nothing to make people rush down the aisle!

Interlude: This optional song would be used during a couple's sand-pouring ceremony or candle lighting to fill the silence.

Andrea recommends a short, 20 second selection of a light classical piece.

Recessional: This is one song to celebrate the announcement of the married couple as they walk back down the aisle together! The entire bridal party and family members will also use this song to exit back down the aisle and head to the cocktail hour.

Andrea recommends a song that is joyous, happy, and upbeat.

Postlude: Like prelude, this is background music as the guests are exiting the wedding space and proceed to the cocktail hour.

Andrea recommends a mix of upbeat pop tunes and light classical.

Cocktail Hour: Background music for the guests as they enjoy cocktails and appetizers while waiting for the reception to begin. The newly married couple sometimes uses this hour to take pictures.

Andrea recommends upbeat pop and love tunes with some jazz standards and broadway hits.
